Clarity

Please note that there is more than one music composer and vocalist named Erin Gee.

As a guide to reduce confusion: my name is Erin Gee (pronounced with a hard “G”)(b. 1974, California), I am based in the United States, and was previously based in Graz, Austria.

I am an Associate Professor at Brandeis University and my main work is the Mouthpiece Series, though I also work with my sibling-collaborator, Colin Gee, and others on video installations, opera, film, dance, and theater.

I describe myself as a composer, “vocalist” and “vocal-artist” in press and profiles.

It was such an honor to work with violinist Diane Daly and cellist Aoife Nic Athlaoich of the Irish Chamber Orchestra during the recording of this music for script-based dance piece/video installation by Angie Smalis and sibling-collaborator Colin Gee.

“Moloney” is a video installation of a script-based dance work about Margaret Moloney (1868-1952). From Co. Limerick, Moloney was Glin’s final harbour master and the only known woman in that role.

In this work, “Barbara” (Angie Smalis) considers Ms. Moloney as a woman in a position of power, managing the flow of maritime traffic. In considering the flow of the water, and the flow of men’s interests, she considers how practical things are learned from nature and history, in particular, how to navigate, and negotiate, between people.

"Moloney continues our exploration of historical and artificial perspectives through the use of storytelling techniques and place-based narrative for dance and forms the first part of the “Persuasion'' trilogy, which explores ethical dilemmas created where personal and public interests conflict".

Initial development began with a 2021 Arts Council Bursary award. The touring installation was made possible under the Arts Grant Funding, 2022 and the Limerick City and County Council Strategic Award, 2022.
